| English for communication (EC)
The EC program provides a friendly environment in which students practice, improve and learn to enjoy their English. Our teachers help facilitate an educational experience based on cross-cultural exchange and understanding.
After placement testing, students enter one of seven levels (Beginning 1, 2; Intermediate 1, 2; High Intermediate 1, 2; Advanced 1). Most students spend an average of three terms in one level.
EC classes are offered full-time (4hrs daily Monday to Friday) and part-time (4hrs Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 2hrs Tuesday, Thursday). High Intermediate to Advanced classes are in the morning; Beginning to Intermediate classes are in the afternoon.
The regular curriculum at the Intermediate to Advanced level is divided into two sessions daily: Listening & Speaking, then Reading & Writing. Full-time students have a choice of a variety of electives during the second session on Tuesdays and Thursdays when part-time students leave.
ELECTIVES
ICC offers electives to full-time Intermediate to Advanced level students to complete the 20 hour a week English for Communication program. These courses, individually created by our teachers, allow the students to explore an area of special interest while improving all English skills.
Electives include: Exploring Film, Hawaiiana, In the News, Life Skills, English through Music and Everyday Idioms.
