English for health professionals (EHP)

EHP is an excellent introductory course for future and current health professionals interested in American medical, nursing, and related health professions. In this 3-month course of American Medical English (the language of American medicine, nursing and health-related professions), students learn Greek and Latin roots, combining forms, prefixes and suffixes and study the anatomy, physiology and select pathology of:

  • Respiratory system
  • Lymphatic system
  • Endocrine system
  • Musculoskelatal system
  • Nervous system
  • Cardiovascular system
  • Reproductive system
  • Integumentary system
  • Digestive system
  • Urinary system

The course is taught by a licensed, American physician, linguist, and native speaker, and includes visits to and/or hands-on presentations by select, local medical, nursing, and/or health-related practitioners, offices, and/or institutions. Students may elect to take the course for two American university semester credits from Weber State University (Ogden, Utah). The credits are transferable to most American colleges and universities.

Students in EHP range from 20 to 50 years old, though the course is applicable to any student who has graduated from high school has a sufficient TOEFL score. We suggest a combination of EHP and private tutoring to develop a specific medical, nursing, pharmacy, and/or veterinary study or licensure plan.

Students may elect to volunteer at one of over 20 select, local, health-related sites (this is optional).

Entrance Requirement
TOEFL 520 (190 computerized) equivalent or ICC entrance test. Students with lower scores are invited to join our TOEFL 1, 2, or 3 program and transfer to English for Health Professions when they attain a 190 on an official, institutional or in-house TOEFL test.

The program is offered as a group tour package only, for groups of 10 students or more. ICC has been arranging study tours for groups from around the world since 1991. We can custom design a program to match the needs of you or your clients.
