This intensive internship combines English language training with on-the-job exposure to American business practices. Internships are opportunities to apply the skills acquired in core English for Business (EB) or English for Communication (EC) classes. Interns are placed at a business or professional organization for 8 to 12 hours a week. All positions are unpaid.
Cooperating businesses represent many fields, including but not limited to:
- Advertising/Marketing
- Legal Services
- Financial/Investment Services
- Real Estate
- Information Technology
- Travel and Tourism
- Information Technology
This program is designed to (help you) develop your English skills in an American workplace environment. Every effort is made to match students with their business area of interest; however, we CANNOT guarantee placement in a certain company or industry.
Schedule
Students are guided through pre-internship preparation for a minimum of three weeks. This preparation includes orientation to U.S. business culture, writing and editing a U.S.-style resume and cover letter, researching possible positions and practicing interviewing skills.
Student interns attend English for Communication or English for Business classes Monday through Friday mornings (8:30 - 12:30) at the ICC campus.
Internship hours are negotiated with the host company during non-class hours. Weekly intern discussion meetings are available.
Course Length
Internships are for a minimum of 8 weeks and a maximum of 12 weeks
(not including pre-internship preparation).
Entry Requirements
- F-1 visa
- High-intermediate level or submission of one of the following test scores: IELTS - 5+, TOEFL – 450+, TOEIC – 600+.
- Approval of Internship Coordinator after first meeting
Placement Fee
$450 (does not include EB or EC tuition)
