ICC offers a unique 3-level Program for students who want to study for the TOEFL test or for admission to an American College or University.
TOEFL 1 | TOEFL 2 | TOEFL 3 (College Studies Program)
Learning outcomes for students enrolled in ICC's TOEFL program are expressed both globally in terms of general English language fluency and specifically in terms of student behaviors exhibited in classes.
Our understanding of fluency is three-part: General, Academic, and Cultural.
General Fluency is defined for the purposes of English acquisition as the ability to interact in the target language smoothly, with minimal effort, and to be able to read, write, listen, and speak in a comprehensible manner. Added to this general fluency goal is ICC's goal of supporting American Academic English (AAE) Fluency; that is that non-native speaking students will be able to successfully participate in and complete academic programs at U.S. universities in the same way as native speakers can.
Moreover, ICC supports the goal of Cultural Fluency—that the student will understand and be able to adapt to the norms of American culture without compromising their own cultural values. These three Fluencies underlie the philosophy driving the goals, curriculum, and assessment tools evident in the TOEFL program at ICC.
TOEFL 1
TOEFL 1: Introduction provides students with entry TOEFL scores less than 450 with the essential AAE knowledge and skills necessary to attend most American vocational schools and many junior colleges. Basic structure, conversational listening, pronunciation, reading, vocabulary, and essay writing skills are presented at a level appropriate a the lower-intermediate student. In addition, students learn and practice specific TOEFL test-taking strategies.
TOEFL 2
TOEFL 2: Foundation utilizes a novel method--Transformational Learning--developed by Dr. Daniel Janik, Director of College Studies Programs. This method is based on the neuroanatomical model of learning authored by Dr. Terrance Deacon of Boston University. TOEFL 2 provides students with entry scores of 450 or higher with an extended foundation in American Academic English ideally suited for students wanting to gain admission and be successful in undergraduate, graduate and professional study programs at American colleges and universities.
